Grants

Part of the Childhood Asthma Foundation's mandate is to fund research and education. To date over 1.6 million dollars in grants have been allocated.


The Childhood Asthma Foundation has partnered with the St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation by pledging $250,000 in support of asthma research. The study is one of the largest every conducted on Asthma in Canada and will follow 10,000 families for five years. Read More...



The Childhood Asthma Foundation has pledged $200,000 to the Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation to fund research to improve the assessment of level of asthma control by physician for preschool and school-aged children.



The Childhood Asthma Foundation donated $20,000 to the South & Central Health Foundation. This grant helped purchase a Pulmonary Function Analyzer for the Central West Health Foundation in Newfoundland. This equipment is essential for evaluting lung function in children with asthma.



The Childhood Asthma Foundation has provided over $190,000 in support to The Children’s Asthma Education Centre (MB). These funds allow the Centre to carry out several projects including participation in the Annual Teddy Bear Picnic were children and families have an opportunity to learn about asthma, production of an asthma awareness calendar, education for children and teens, professional development for asthma educators, and the development of educational tools. The Childhood Asthma Foundation and The Children's Asthma Education Centre have partnered to develop an Asthma Education CD-ROM that CAF will soon distribute at no charge to Canadians.



Doctors at the University of Alberta received $60,000 for research research on asthma in infants. A second team of researchers received $30,000 for screening and assessing adolescents with asthma for anxiety disorders.



The Asthma Unit of the Janeway Children’s Hospital Health and Rehabilitation Centre (NL) received $49,000 for asthma education and patient support. These funds help bring asthma information and supplies to children throughout the province, who might not otherwise have access. Funds in the amount of $30,000 were provided for research into new treatment for children suffering acute asthma attacks.



The Childhood Asthma Foundation has donated $300,000 to the Alberta Asthma Centre to further their work in childhood asthma research and education, specifically their program The Roaring Adventures of Puff.$5000 was provided to expand the Day Care Asthma Education Program.



The Childhood Asthma Foundation donated $300,000 to The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba to provide ongoing research through the Childhood Asthma Foundation Research Fund.



The Childhood Asthma Foundation donated $500,000 to The Sick Kids Foundation at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. This established The Childhood Asthma Foundation Fund for Asthma Research. An additional $50,000 was donated to purchase an Electronically braked cycle isokinetic ergometer. This special bicycle helps researchers learn more about the relationship between exercise and asthma in children. An additional $55,000 donation funded the development and production of the Asthma Guidebook, a resource for parents of children with asthma.


Other ways donations help children with asthma

Childhood Asthma Foundation is dedicated to promoting education and public awareness of childhood asthma.

  • Educational pamphlets and literature are available upon request to parents, physicians, students, educators, and healthcare professionals.
    Asthma education posters have been distributed to pediatricians across Canada.
    Public Service Announcements are distributed to television stations across Canada and are aired on stations such as Omni, YTV, Global, and CBC.
  • A colouring book, "Living with Asthma" is available at no charge to help younger children understand asthma and triggers that can lead to an attack. The colouring books have been very popular and thousands have been distributed across Canada to families and organizations such as:
